Though LASIK (LAser in SItu Keratomileusis) surgical treatment can be regarded as one of the most accepted kind of refractive surgical procedure, there are situations when it cannot be carried out. For these circumstances, a different from of laser vision correction cure is considered. The ASLA (Advanced Surface Laser Ablation) technique is used when the LASIK system is considered incompatible for a specific patient, for instance, if the cornea is overly slim or if the corneal topography is irregular or if the corneal face coating (the epithelium) is unstable. ASLA can be used for correction of myopia or astigmatism, but it is not used for correcting hypermetropia. An eye expert will be able to determine which method is the most suitable for a particular eye state.
