Summer, or winter, fall or spring, you should always have sunglasses handy if there is a sun in the sky. There are two major features to consider when it comes to choosing your sunglasses online: health and fashion.

Let’s address health very quickly. The goal of sunglasses is not to make you look cool; that is just an added benefit. The goal is to protect your eyes from being essentially burnt over time by harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. If your sunglasses do not block pretty much all the sun’s rays, you will actually be doing more damage to your eyes than not wearing anything over your eyes at all.

But this article is not about health; it’s about fashion. Specifically, it’s about
a brief history of sunglasses starting off with the five most popular models of sunglasses that have been worn throughout the last 70 years. These five sunglasses styles are arranged in alphabetical order:

Aviator Sunglasses

The Aviator design was introduced in 1936 specifically for U.S. military pilots – hence the term “aviator’ – and was made available to the public several years later. It was in 1986 that aviator sunglasses became all the rage, popularized by Tom Cruise as ace pilot Maverick in the movie Top Gun.

Oversized Sunglasses

Oversized sunglasses first became popular in the 1960′s when women purchased them to mimic the ones famously worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. These are not quite as large as the novelty sunglasses popularized by Elton John, but they are big and they do help block out more harmful rays than smaller models. They have recently made a comeback to kick off the 21st thanks to latter-day fashionista celebrities like Paris Hilton.

Ray-Ban Wayfarer

Created in 1952 Ray-Ban’s Wayfarer sunglasses replaced traditional metal frames with plastic ones, much as we have seen plastic replace other materials in everything from cars to cutlery. Originally developed for pilots, Wayfarers were quickly popularized by Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. Audrey Hepburn wore them in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Tom Cruise sported them in the 1983 film Risky Business. Wayfarer is remains a popular model of sunglasses today.

Teashade Sunglasses

Teashades, also known as John Lennon glasses, were very popular in the 1960′s, but have largely fallen out of fashion since then. Teashade sunglasses keep each eye distinct and separate, as opposed to most other models that create a “unibrow” effect over the eyes. There are rumours of a teashade comeback after recent paparazzi photos of famous actresses and musicians have been seen sporting teashade frames.

Wraparound Shades

These became all the rage in the early 1990s – not that long ago. These sunglasses are the top choice for athletes, from regular teams sports to extreme sports. They stay on the face and fit comfortably and snuggly.

Although sunglasses have been a popular fashion accessory over the past 70 years, they actually have a much longer history. The first known ‘sunglasses’ were made from walrus ivory, dating back to prehistoric times. Inuit peoples flattened walrus ivory and fitted them with narrow slits to help protect their eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. When the sun reflects off the vast, uninterupted expanse of snow for almost six months without stop, a little protection form “snow blindness” comes in handy.

By the 12th century, we finally have written evidence of sunglasses…from in China. These early sunglasses where comprised of flat panes of smoky quartz and were used to protect the eyes from the sun. The 20th century is when the use of sunglasses really took off. In 1929 Sam Foster began mass-producing sunglasses for the American public and from there many companies flourished by simply making sunglasses.

You can see the wide variety of styles available even just within a single brand, such as Virage sunglasses. Note that none of these are teashades, as they all connect with the unibrow look to some degree or another above the nose.

So whether your choice of wearing sunglasses is due to fashion or simply a choice to protect your eyes from the sun, remember that sunglasses do not have to be expensive to work properly. They should however be able to protect your eyes from UV rays. A good pair of sunglasses, whether they are a designer pair or cheap knockoffs, should be able to block out 100% of harmful UV rays.

For most people it seems to be the same; you lose or break a lense in your glasses and you go out and buy an entirely new pair, frame included. However you don’t need to spend such a high amount of money on new frames just for new or replacement lenses.

Perhaps a better option would be to get your glasses reglazed, meaning you don’t have to buy a brand new pair of glasses. This means you can save money and keep hold of the frames you’ve been accustomed to.

It’s not just prescription glasses you can take to be reglazed either; most pairs of sunglasses will also allow you to adopt the same approach. Let’s say you’ve just bought yourself a very expensive pair of designer sunglasses and you accidently crack one of the lenses. In most instances, you’d probably expect to have to buy an entirely new pair. Taking your frames in to an opticians to get reglazed however will mean you can keep the designer frames and save yourself a huge amount of money. Sunglasses can be reglazed whether you need prescription or non prescription lenses, meaning it’s a perfect option for anyone.

One slight problem you might experience with sunglasses is if they are an especially curved frame. If you do have excessively curved sunglasses it’s worth checking with your local optician via the phone or internet before taking your frames in as they sometimes have issue reglazing frames above a certain curvature.

If you’ve broken your frame, then unfortunately you will need to purchase a new pair of glasses, as the frames can’t be replaced in the same way. If you hava damaged but not broken frame, you’ll have to check with the optician if you can get it fixed. Most opticians will only be able to offer a reglaze service is the frame is still in good condition and therefore not likely to brake during the glazing process.

So if you do own a pricy pair of Oakley sunglasses or similar and you crack a lense, take them down to your local optician before deciding to shell out on a new pair, you could save yourself a fortune!

Believe it or not wearing sunglasses over the christmas period could really be a key thing and it does sound like a strange thing to do. Why on earth does this happen?

Sunlight

It is very hard to believe that harmful UV lights can still push through the clouds and hit the earth surface. Just because it is cold on a sunny day it doesn?t mean that the sun isn?t as powerful so make sure that if the sun is out you are wearing those Sunglasses as they will really help you out. It is always best just to pop them on when it is sunny as the damage caused on the eyes by the sun can be really bad.

How can the sun damage my eyes through clouds and on cold days?

One of the major problems are that UV rays are invisible which means you can never tell if they are pushing through or not. Do not go too far with it though, there is simply no need to wear them if it is chucking it down outside but take them with you if it is cloudy in case the sun breaks through. What happens is that the UV light goes into the eyes and cause a reaction in the tissue. Once this damage has been done there is no way it can be reversed which is why it is so important that you wear those Ray Ban Sunglasses.

?	Eye Disease
?	The sun can play a really big role in these diseases:
?	Cataract
?	Pteryguim
?	Skin Cancer
?	Age- Related Macular Degeneration

So as you can see it is certainly worth getting those sunglasses out. If you already where glasses then do not worry as you can get Prescription Sunglasses that are made for the sun!

So in the chilly season this year make sure that you have your sunglasses in your pocket at the very least to make sure the eyes are fully protected.

There is something about a pair of sunglasses that makes them arguably one of the most quintessential ‘must-have’ items of all time. Not only are they immensely practical, offering protection from the dangers of the sun, they are an enormously versatile fashion accessory, available in a huge range of styles, colors and prices to suit every pocket. Given their worldwide popularity, sunglass manufacturing has become a very lucrative, but highly competitive industry and while some manufacturers rise and wane in the public affections, there is one company that remains forever synonymous with the eyeglasses that protect our eyes from the rays of the sun: Ray-Ban

Although Us President, Benjamin Franklin, is often credited with inventing eyeglasses (he was the one who developed the first bifocal lens in the 1780′s), the first reading glasses were developed in Italy, as early as 1260. People continued to be fascinated by all things optical throughout the centuries that followed, then, in the mid-eighteen hundreds British scientist James Ayscough began to research tinted glass, and the possibility that such technology may be used to improve vision impaired eyesight. As successful as he was, it was not until 1929 that the idea that glasses could filter the sun’s rays was given any serious consideration. At that time, U.S. optical company, Foster Grant, began to develop the idea further, until finally, later that same year, the first ever pair of sunglasses were sold from a Woolworth’s store on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

Recognizing that the new technology could be beneficial to their pilots, the U.S. Army Air Corps asked another prominent American company, Bausch & Lomb, to develop eyeglasses that would protect the eyes from the dangers of the glaring sun, when flying.

It was U.S. eyeglass company, Ray-Ban, who really ran with the concept. In 1936, using the newly available polarized lenses, and a wide frame that offered maximum protection from the sheen of an instrument panel, Ray-Ban began to produce a lens that banned the sun’s rays. Some three years later, this model of sunglass so popular with pilots, became readily available to the American public. Ray-Ban ‘aviators’ were born.

As Americans came of age, so too did their eyewear. Throughout the war years Ray-Ban continued its working partnership with the Air Force, creating Gradient mirror lenses that managed to be both highly practical and fashionable at the same time. There was something about that American flyer in his tough brown leather flight jacket, whose sunglasses hid his eyes. Ray-Ban had just made sunglasses sexy.

Ubiquitous in the 1950′s, sunglasses became more than just eye protection. Worn by A-list celebrities in Vegas and Hollywood -stars whose every move was scrutinized and emulated all over the country- sunglasses became a fashion accessory, and Ray-Ban was quick to accommodate the growing trend for new designs and colorful frames, which they marketed to women in particular.

Keeping abreast of space-age technology, the company developed shatterproof lenses in the 1960′s and the popularity of sunglasses continued to rise when fashion icon Jackie Kennedy was often seen with her trademark, oversized frames. On the silver screen, sunglasses were becoming an essential part of any actor’s costume, with movie stars like Peter Fonda and Audrey Hepburn, playing stylish, sunglass-wearing, characters who were able to hide their eyes from the audience and remain convincing.

Ray-Ban continued to develop new styles and designs in the 1970′s and 1980′s: their ‘Wings’ model was indeed a forerunner to the very modern, half-frame, lens of today. In the era of American TV cop shows, like Starsky & Hutch, and Chips, the mirrored lenses once so popular in the 1940′s, began to reappear. Ray-Ban was retro.

Stylish and modern, funky and retro, Ray-Ban remains at the forefront of sunglass manufacturing to this day, no mean feat when one considers the competition out there. Undoubtedly, the company will continue to have staying power in the industry, because throughout the decades it has evolved with the nation to give people exactly what they want for their eyes: the reliable protection of a hi-tech pair of sunglasses, and the serious ‘cool’ of a damn sexy pair of shades.

When looking for the perfect pair of eyeglasses, there is one main factor you should look for; how well they will look on your face. When you are looking for the right pair of eyeglasses, most people will normally try on every pair possible in order to judge which is best for them, but what if you could narrow down your search before you even step foot in the eyeglass store? Now you can. Simply determine your face shape and coloring and you will be able to establish which shape and eyeglass color will fit you best.

Choosing the correct eyeglass frame for your face shape can be as simple as following the three keys that the Vision Council of America (VCA) has set forth in their Envision Yourself Program. These three keys are as follows: The frame shape should contrast well with the face shape, the frame size should be in scale with the face size and eyewear should repeat your personal best feature (such as a light color frame to match blonde hair). There are seven basic face shapes according to the VCA and when you can fully understand which shape your face falls under, you will be one step closer to determining your perfect pair of eyeglasses. The seven face shapes are: base-down triangle, base-up triangle, diamond, round, square, oval and oblong. Also, a good optician can help you when choosing the perfect pair of eyeglasses by following these guidelines.

Overview of Face Shapes and Eyeglass Frames

As stated above, there are seven basic face shapes and you should always be aware of which face shape you have in order to determine which eyeglasses will suit you best. Making sure that you determine which face shape you have and that you choose an eyeglass frame to fit your shape, you will want to follow the subsequent guidelines. A round face has curved lines and the width and length are in the same proportions with no angles. For choosing the correct eyeglasses for a round face, you should try angular narrow eyeglass frames to lengthen the shape of your face and look for a set of eyeglasses that has a wider structure than long, such as a rectangular shape. An oval face is believed to be the perfect face shape due to its equal proportions.

To keep your faces physical balance, look for a set of eyeglasses that are as wide as the broadest part of the face. Base-down Triangle face shapes are narrow at the forehead and widen around the cheek and chin. To best proportion the top half of the face, choose an eyeglass that is wider in shape. A Base-up Triangle face has a wider top third and a narrow bottom third. To best adjust the scope of your face, chose a lighter color frame or possibly a rimless frame as these will draw less attention to the top third of your face.

A square face shape has a strong jaw line and a broad forehead while the width and length are generally in the same proportions. To make your face look longer, try narrow frames that have more width than depth. Diamond shape face structures are narrow at the jaw line and eye line while the cheekbones are generally wider. Even though this is the rarest face shape, you can still find eyeglasses to compliment it by choosing a frame that have detailed brow-lines or are rimless and possibly cat-eye shaped. The oblong face shape is commonly longer than it is wide and has a long straight cheek line. To make the face seem shorter and more balanced, try a frame that has top-to-bottom depth so it will add depth to the face structure.

Colors of your skin, hair and eyes will effect your decision

Skin tone is a primary factor in determining the right eyeglass color. All tones fall into two different color bases ? blue (cool) or yellow (warm). A cool complexion has blue or pink traces while a warm complexion has a “peaches and cream” or yellow shine. Eye color is usually a second rate reason in choosing your eyeglasses due to the wide range of eye colors. For example, blue eyes can range from a cool almost violet color all the way to a pale-blue, which is a warm color. Brown eyes can range from a light shade which is cool, all the way to a dark almost black warm color.

Hair colors are also considered either cool or warm. Strawberry Blond, white, salt-and-pepper gray, and light brown are all cool colors. Golden blond, flat black, brown-gold, red and “dirty” gray are all considered warm colors. Once you have determined if you are a cool or warm color, you will then be able to find the eyeglasses that will best suit your needs. Some examples of frame colors for cool coloring are black, dark brown, blue-gray, plum, magenta, blue and a dark turquoise. Warm coloring will be best fit to wear frames with the following colors: gold, copper, peach, light tan, orange, coral, bright red, off-white, warm blue and light turquoise.

Final decision when choosing your eyeglasses

At the end of the day, you must be completely happy with your choice in eyeglasses because you will be the only one wearing them every day and you will need to be content with your choice so that you will want to wear your eyeglasses daily and in turn will keep your eyesight the same or better in the long run. This is a guideline to help you choose the best frame to suit your shape and coloring, but you ultimately will be the one making the deciding vote. We do recommend that you follow this format when choosing your eyeglasses as well as do the Vision Council of America (VCA). Remembering to choose the right eyeglass frames based upon your face shape and your warm or cool coloring will ensure that you are selecting the correct eyeglasses.

Buying cheap sunglasses does not necessarily mean that you are just getting poor quality sunglasses. You can easily get cheap sunglasses on line from all the popular designers. The online prices for sun glasses are much cheaper than you would pay in a regular store and you have a much wider selection of designer sun glasses to choose from.

When you check out the line of cheap sunglasses, you do have to do your homework to make sure these sun glasses are not cheap quality. If you are shopping online, you do need to look at the photos of the cheap designer sunglasses, but you also need to read the accompanying descriptions. The frame is an important part of the sunglasses. Plastic frames will not last as long as metal frames, so you need to make sure the designer sun glasses offered for cheap prices are not plastic frames.
If the frame of cheap sunglasses is plastic, read on to see if it contains a metal rod. If so, then these would be good quality cheap designer sunglasses. It is possible to get designer sun glasses, such as Armani, Oakley, Maui Jim and others at cheap prices through the online retailers. This is because most of the online sites selling designer sunglasses do not carry an overhead. If they do, they don?t have a regular store and probably operate out of their homes. This savings of rent and salaries comes back to you in the form of cheap prices.

You also need to look at the color of the lenses. Choose one that you like and that you will be able to see through clearly. Some of the designer sunglasses have polarized lenses and this is a great feature because it cuts down on the glare of the sun. Even when buying cheap sunglasses, you can still choose the color of the lens and you don?t have to sacrifice quality for price.

With the cheap prices charged for sunglasses online, you can now walk out in style wearing designer sunglasses. No one has to know that they are cheap sunglasses and no one will know unless you tell them. Each of the cheap designer sunglasses carries the signature brand on the lens to let you know that you do have authentic designer sun glasses.

Buying cheap sunglasses doesn?t necessarily mean that you are buying bad sunglasses, but you have to do your homework.

If like many thousands of people you wear glasses to improve your eyesight you know that when the time comes to get a new pair of glasses that it is certainly not going to be cheap.

If you’ve reached that stage in your life where you are required to wear glasses or prescription sunglasses then you may find these tips and tricks helpful when it comes to choosing some glasses. If you ask anyone who has bought glasses in the past, they will be able to tell you that the design of the glasses is not the only thing to consider.

The first thing that you will need to consider is the style of the frame. I mean the type of material that the glasses are made from, that’s right, you are not just limited to one material. You can now get wire, metal, plastic or even titanium and what material you decide on has to suite your needs of the glasses.

After cutting it down to a couple of materials that you like, you then need to pick out the shape of the frames that would suit you. This is where the shape of your face comes into the decision making. If you have a more oval shaped face, you should go towards a more rectangle frame whereas if you have a more square face, you should go for a more oval or circle shape.

While choosing a few different styles you like, keep in mind of your budget because glasses are not cheap. Generally the best ones tend to be the most expensive because they tend to be designer glasses, nowadays, you don’t just get Ray Ban sunglasses, but they also sell Ray Ban glasses. Since glasses have become more a fashion statement, the range and price has increased, making your job harder.

Once you have a few different styles in your hand, it’s about time you tried them on. A mirror and a friend will be helpful here as they can tell you whether you look right in the glasses. Remember, if you tend to have longer eyelashes, make sure the glasses don’t touch them because this can be irritating if it’s all day long.

Hopefully this has helped you choose the glasses that are right for you.Now you just have to choose some prescription sunglasses, because now you know these tips, do your pair of Police sunglasses really suit you?

We’ve all seen the strange things that people have modified into USB storage devices. Whether it’s a fake piece of broken wire to deter thieves, or maybe a real stick that can store 2GB of memory. There are hundreds of them out there that you can buy and now there is a new addition to the list of strange USB sticks.

The new addition is a pair of sunglasses, Calvin Klein sunglasses to be precise. You might be wondering how they managed to fit a USB stick into a pair of glasses and still make them look fashionable. Well, it’s a pretty cool way they have done it, although it doesn’t make a huge amount of sense, it’s still cool. They have included the USB storage into the end of the right arm of the frames. All you have to do is pull the end of the arm off, plug it into your PC and then it can store a massive 4GB of data, not bad for a pair of sunglasses.

Although it sounds odd to include a USB memory stick into a pair of glasses, I guess it makes a unique selling point as you wouldn’t get that feature in a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses. Although, if you think that when you are on a beach, using your laptop or netbook, as you do when on holiday, and you require some extra storage, simply pull apart your sunglasses and there you have it.

Of course the major disadvantage to this product is that once you start using the USB storage, you are unable to wear them, unless you can balance them on your head using 1 and a half arms. Also, I assume they have made the connection holding the arm together strong otherwise as you remove the sunglasses, the arm might fall apart, not something you want on a beach. Also, I’m not sure if the USB is waterproof because if you’re using them on the beach, you don’t want to loose all your data if you get splashed, you certainly wouldn’t have that problem with Police sunglasses.

I guess the glasses do have some upsides, although they have a number of downsides too, and if you really don’t want to carry around a seperate memory stick, then these are perfect for you. However, they will cost you quite a bit. $199 is how much they are retailing for, I imagine you are paying for the glasses and not the 4GB of storage which would normally cost you about $20.
